Step-by-Step: Winter Wonderland

by Trish Dykes (Jan 28, 2010)

Don't let the winter blues get you down; head outdoors for some fresh air. With the sun sitting lower in the sky, it is a great time of year to use this lighting to your advantage and capture some great portraits with your camera. For more information on how to get started, check out Amy Stultz' winter photography article.

I took advantage of a beautiful January day and did a photo shoot of my daughter. I was delighted to find that the new Polar Expressions line by Imaginisce complemented the color and theme of my photos. Using the papers and various embellishments, I was able to put this layout together in no time. Here is how I did it.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut a piece of the All Bundled Up patterned paper to 7" by 3 ½" and a piece of the Sugar Sprinkles patterned paper to 6 1/4" by 2". Rub the edges of the papers with the Chestnut Roan chalk ink and glue them onto the Peanut cardstock, 1/4" in from both the top and bottom edges.
  2. Cut a piece of the Comfy Cozy patterned paper to 4" by 11" and ink the edges with the chalk ink. Place the strip across the center of the layout 3 3/4" down from the top edge, overlapping the two other patterned papers.
  3. Rub on the Winter Wonderland border according to the manufacturer's directions 3/4" up from the bottom edge of the Comfy Cozy paper. Then run a 12" piece of ribbon across the bottom of the paper, attaching it to the back of the layout.
  4. Mount your photo on white cardstock and glue on top of the All Bundled Up and Comfy Cozy papers. Use spray adhesive to add the felt bear piece to the lower right edge of the photo, and a brad for the red 7gypsies photo turn on the upper right side of the photo.
  5. Finish the layout by adding the ghost snowflakes, buttons and jewels as desired. Then use a Sakura pen to include the date. Finally, rub the outside edge with the chalk ink to complete the look.
