Let’s Travel: New York City
by Amy Sotolongo
(Jan 8, 2013)
New York, New York is a place like no other. You always know a first-timer because he walks around with his head tilted back as he walks all the way down the street. The buildings, shops, restaurants, and overall feel are like nowhere else. My husband and I have had the good fortune of spending time in NYC on three separate occasions. The first time for an entire vacation, the second time as three-day stop on our way to Europe and the third time as a day trip from Philadelphia. Each time we have always commented on the great food and overall feel of the city. I want to capture that for my albums. In an effort to do this I created two new layouts and included another one I made previously to inspire you to visit or scrapbook NYC.
Layout #1: New York: Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made
My husband and I visited NYC in 2005 and the trip launched our big dreams of going to Europe and expanding our travels. I wanted to capture those dreams and remember them. For this layout I was inspired by Audrey Yeager's layout in the November/December issue of Creating Keepsakes entitled "You Can". After seeing how she used tags for her background and colored tags to frame her photos, I decided the tags could represent buildings and that upward feel of NYC. I cut the tags on my Silhouette Cameo and then used a variety of alphabets for my title. I also included a visual triangle design element using Ali Edwards travel stamps to tie travel into the layout and give a place for journaling. Products used:
Layout #2: Top Ten New York
I wanted to do a "Top 10" list for NYC that included the obvious, but in the future I plan on doing a not-so-obvious top ten places/loves that we have. For this layout I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the "ten" divider and then added the "New York" in the open space. There wasn't enough room for 10 photos, but that's ok, I just included two more in my journaling. We love the view from Empire or Top of the Rock, Central Park, Lady Liberty, baseball, Brooklyn Bridge, the roof of the Met, Time Square, the views, all the good food and being together. New York offers something for everyone, the opportunities are endless, and even after three stops there, we still have a wish list to see and food to try. Products used:
Layout #3: View from the Top
I created this layout for a kit club design team I was on earlier in the year. This layout includes photos taken from the roof of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. We had heard there was a spectacular view from the roof, but it's really breathtaking and amazingly quiet. I created a visual triangle with the three groups of embellishing, the title, "happy to have you" sticker and pin, and the butterfly. I also created an interesting border by only punching some of the paper and then adding the tickets to the open spaces that were not punched. Products used:
I hope I have inspired you to pull out your NYC photos and start scrapping, or hop online and check out all the amazing sights and take in New York through your computer screen. It's a unique city, one worth visiting at least once in your life. |
