Venice: The Sites, the Photos, and a Scrapbook Page

by Amy Sotolongo (Nov 28, 2012)

Venice is a unique place unlike anywhere else I have been. There is nothing like the light against the water and the canal streets on which to stroll. We spent a few days in Venice before moving on to Florence and Rome. I have some recommendations for sites, some tips for taking photos and a scrapbook page to share with you, all on the wonderful subject of Venice.

The Sites:

Campanile di San Marco

Take the elevator to the top of this bell tower to see an amazing view of Venice.

Saint Marks Basilica

The highlight of the square, the Basilica is one to see.

Saint Mark's Square

Hold onto your wallets, but definitely walk the square and take in the sights around the square.

Take a Gondola Ride

While they are not cheap, you can't leave Venice without seeing it from the seat of a gondola. Go during off-times for cheaper rates.

Walk the Streets at Night

You will find the cruise lines empty huge crowds into Venice during the day and it becomes really crowded. At night all the cruise tourists return to the ship and the city becomes calm and easy to navigate. Grab your map for a late night stroll.

Rialto Bridge

A lovely bridge located in the heart of Venice offers shopping, restaurants and fun close by.

The Market

Check the days the local market is available and then go sample all the fabulous fruits and vegetables. Fish and meats are also available.

The Photos:

Venice is a fabulous place to practice your photography.

Bridges

The Rialto Bridge offers a wonderful opportunity to capture the bridge and gondola riders.

Take the opportunity to photo some of the various bridges this city has to offer.

The Market

The market offers many opportunities to photo different angles and products. Try different angles, fill your lens, back up and take a shot of the market, there are endless possibilities here.

Buildings

Head for the top for a fantastic view!

Stand at the base and lean back, shooting the building against the sky. It's a fun angle and shows the unique sky.

Here is a view of Venice from the top of the Campanile.

Sky

Don't forget to look up. The puffy cotton candy clouds are beautiful against the deep blue sky.

Yourself

Stand on a bridge, hold your hand out and take a photo of yourself. You will want to capture the scene and include yourself.

Night

Venice at night is so beautiful and you will want to remember the city as the sun goes down. Grab your camera and head out. Photograph the sky, the buildings in the shadows, and the water. It's a unique place that will give you unique photos.

Scrapbook Your Memories:

The new Echo Park, "For the Record 2" is the perfect color scheme to capture all of your Venice Memories.  I chose to use the line to capture my Venice-at-night photos. Echo Park regularly provides the small cards with each line. I am always unsure what to do with these, but I decided to make them into mini vignettes on the page. I used some of them for journaling, one of them to stamp on and the others I added stickers or just left them as is. This is an easy technique that can be used on any layout.

The Challenge:

Create a layout using at least six small vignettes and come link it here in the comments.
