New York-themed Embellishments

by Rachel Myerson (Jan 10, 2012)

If you're planning to a trip to New York or just returned from one, you are going to have fun scrapping your photos from this exciting city. For me, part of scrapping a trip is choosing just the right papers and embellishments to use for a particular destination. Here are some suggestions for embellishments suitable for a trip to New York.

No trip to New York is complete without a visit to some of the typical tourist attractions: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park, and plenty of museums. There are many New York-themed stickers  and papers available from such companies as Scrapbook Customs and Paper House Productions, two companies which specialize in travel-themed products.

However, if you are the type of scrapper who prefers to coordinate your embellishments to your theme in a more general way, here are some other ideas:

  • Apples: New York is often referred to as the "The Big Apple." Consider using apples to embellish a page with this title, or as a theme throughout a mini-album. Typically, you can find apple-themed products in food or school collections.

  • Bling:  The city that never sleeps, New York is full of bright lights, especially if you are walking through Times Square. Consider embellishing your layouts of Time Square, nightlife, black-tie events, and celebrity sightings with transparencies and bling.

  • Museums: A trip to New York often consists of at least one visit to a museum. Consider embellishing your layout in a theme consistent with the museum, such as the military embellishments I used for this layout about our visit to the Intrepid museum.

  • Sports: A highlight of a trip to New York can be taking the subway up to the Bronx to see the Yankees play baseball, or perhaps watching one of the city's other professional sports teams. A great way to scrap your trip to the ballpark is with papers and elements from that sport combined with the team's colors.

  • Patriotic: Certain sites in New York have a patriotic feel to them. Historically, this has included places such as the Statue of Liberty and more recently the unfortunate site of the September 11 attacks, now named Ground Zero and the soon-to-be-home of the Freedom Tower. If you visit any of these patriotic sites or memorials, you may want to use the patriotic-themed papers and embellishments for your scrapbook pages.

I hope I've given you a few ideas of embellishments to use on layouts of your trip to the Big Apple.
