A Day in the Life

by Denise Gormish (Jan 18, 2012)

Everyday life can seem mundane but those days tell a lot about a person. It shows the everyday moments of life and where the person is right now. One fun way to record what happens in a person's typical day is to create a page that chronicles an entire day.

To do a page about a person's typical day, take photographs and then create a scrapbook page. This project can be done for yourself or someone else. If it is about someone else then you will need that person to take photographs when you are not with him or her.

Photography. The first part of the project takes some planning. Pick a day that is typical for you and take photographs of your life and regular routine. Make sure you take your camera with you as you go from place to place. Use a compact camera if an SLR would be too much effort. Some examples of things you can photograph include the following: meals, computer, laundry, TV watching, restaurants, work, snacks, family, etc. Remember to hand over the camera so others can take photographs of you as well. After all, it is your typical day!

Title. Choose a title for your layout that gives a hint about the subject. There are several good title ideas including the following: "It's So Typical," "A Day in My Life," "My Wonderful Ordinary Day," "A Typical Day" and "Document Today."

Photo Layout. With a topic such as this one, there will probably be lots of photographs. One of the best ways to display a large number of photographs is to cluster them together or stack them next to each other. Choose an arrangement that works for you and is visually pleasing.

Journaling. The journaling is key to this layout. Like the photography, it takes a little planning. Carry a small notebook or even just a piece of scratch paper with you. As you go about your day, write down things that happened. At first it can just be a list of events or phrases. Later you can use these snippets as a way to jog your memory about what happened. Leave plenty of space in your page design for the journaling. The goal is to create detailed journaling of an entire day.

Embellishments. Embellish the scrapbook page with any type of embellishments that work for your style. Items that refer to time, though, would be especially appropriate. These would include date stamps, clocks, the sun and moon.

There never seem to be enough scrapbook pages about the one who does all the scrapbook pages. It's important to get yourself into your pages on occasion. Here is a topic that you can do and that highlights you.
