Through the Year Month by Month

A colorful Mary Engelbreit calendar hangs in my kitchen next to the phone. Each decorative square on that calendar represents a day in the month and it is scribbled with times and events that require my attention. I've also used this calendar as a way to inform my family how I'm doing emotionally by drawing happy or sad faces and an emotive word or two. When the year ends, I will have twelve colorful calendar pages that have recorded the family happenings and my silly moods during those times.

As a scrapbooker, I've decided to carry that calendar concept a step further and craft a layout that gives a deeper look into my life for that month. By using the calendar in my kitchen, I already have a basis for my journaling. The jotted notes help me to remember all the who, what, when, and where answers that tell the stories of that particular month.

As my digital photos are stored on my computer by month and I have a rudimentary knowledge of creating digital pages, it is a snap to quickly create a yearlong diary of monthly pages. These digital pages can also serve as springboards for more involved paper pages as I can get all the information I need with a quick glance.

January 2006 found me reflecting on the New Year with a photo of a tree that has come to symbolize my life. My son's 19^th birthday, a visit to a dear friend to meet her new baby, and the continued growth of my grandson were all duly recorded on my kitchen calendar and provided the record for the first page of my "All About Me Through the Year" album.
