Combining Hobbies

I love scrapbooking but it is not the one and only hobby in my life. For the past 16 years I have been involved with line dancing. The last ten years I have been teaching it and run popular weekly classes. I take hundreds of line-dance photos and it's always a challenge to scrap them because they generally have lots of people in them! I thought I would share a few of the line-dance-themed layouts I have created to show you how I have managed to scrap some of these "busy" photos.
Every year we participate in a line dance in our town center on Independence Day. With this layout I chose to print one large photo and stretch the title across the page. I used bright colored paper to reflect the happy mood of the photo and of course the beautiful sunshine we experienced that day. You could create a similar layout with a large photo. Whenever I take a photo of a lot of people, I like to increase the print size so each face can really be seen!
Here is another example of a layout where I have used one big photo across the page. This time I layered my papers vertically down the page and added a scalloped circle for the journaling.
In my dance class we seem to hold a lot of events each year where we dress in costumes! They make great photos and funny scrapbook layouts. For this one we dressed as tropical clowns. I used two photos (one group shot and one "action" shot) and staggered them on the page. I created my own tropical clown embellishment using my Cricut machine and the paper doll cartridge.
We dressed as Cowboys and Indians one night too. I used two photos for this layout, kept it monochromatic in color scheme and kept the layout bright because the photos were dark and it balanced everything out.
One year we were invited to teach for a local community day. I stuck by my two photos again, one group shot and one "action" shot. I like how they complement each other and you can get an overall view of the day.
I'm always pleased when I am able to get more than four photos on a page. This layout is all about us dancing in the rain. Nothing stops us!
One great thing I like to do every year is to record a top ten of our favorite dances from that year. I love being able to flick back through my album and see what we were dancing and what we were wearing too!
You can see on this layout that I centered everything on the page, added a couple of cowboy boot embellishments and blocked the paper with the photos. This would be a great method for any sports-themed photos as it has a masculine feel with the black background, but you can lighten it up with a selection of papers. The photos are very busy with dancers, so it's great to keep the paper simple.
Last, here is a more recent layout of some friends and me when we went line dancing at a country-themed bar. For this layout I stacked small photos and created lines of paper across the page. The cowboy boots were a finishing touch. Hopefully this gives you some inspiration for your group or class photos and how to scrap them. For some dance-themed page titles, click here. |
