Got Skates? Ice Skating Layout Ideas

by Patter Cross (Jun 8, 2012)

How many of you either ice skated as a child or have children that ice skate? Maybe they play hockey. Maybe they take figure-skating lessons. Maybe you have just been skating as a family for fun. Whatever skating photos you have on hand, I want to share a few ideas on how to get those photos scrapped!

Photo Ideas

Whether you have photos of kids taking lessons or just skating for fun, there are several shots you will want to be sure to get. Here are some ideas:

  • a close-up of the skates
  • photos of that cold, red nose
  • skating shots
  • shots of those moments someone ends up falling on the ice
  • photos of bruised knees
  • shots of kids getting their first ice skating patch
  • photo of all of their patches
  • photos of their skating outfits

Embellishment Ideas

There are all sorts of embellishments and papers that you can use for ice skating pages. Some companies even have die cuts of skates which can be cute on a page. If the skating was done outside, snowflakes make a cute addition. Here are some other ideas:

  • Use pre-made ice skating stickers or die cuts.
  • Hang a skate charm or snowflake charm on your layout using twine.
  • Include a copy of a skating pass.
  • Include a price tag from the first pair of skates.

Skating Inspiration

Two of my girls began figure skating lessons when they turned 16. They are now almost 18, and they are still going strong. It has become a passion. I wanted to share a layout of one of them in her new skates for the first time. I decided to scrap a photo of her skating and a close-up shot of her skates. The break-in period for new skates can be rough. I am sure she will look at these photos and remember those first days in these skates. For the colors for my layout I chose the red and yellow in the photo.

Supplies used:

papers: Echo Park Note to Self, Papertrey Ink cardstock

embellishments: BasicGrey Nook & Pantry and Piper chipboard letters, Prima Lucerne flower, Jillibean Soup journaling sprout, K&Company Smash sticky note, May Arts ribbons, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, miscellaneous washi tape, sewing machine
