Earth Day Scrapbooking

On Earth Day many of us wear green to celebrate the earth. This is a day that we think about recycling and "greener" living and how we can do these things all year. Although putting out the recycling may not seem like an important event, it may be one of the more important things you do each week. Earth Day is a great opportunity to take some pictures and scrapbook the environmental efforts you make year round. Keep the theme by using green products and a recycled item such as the black plastic sock-hanger I used on the tag in this layout.
All Year Long Earth Day is not the only day when we care about the environment. Many of us recycle and conserve energy whenever possible. Sometimes this can be difficult to photograph, so look for opportunities to photograph and scrap your environmental efforts. Last winter when we had so much snow, my sons and I had fun walking to school every day. As we walked past the gridlocked cars driving to school, my son pointed out that we were going faster than the cars. We also discussed that we were not wasting gas or polluting and felt really good about ourselves. So, I pulled out my camera phone and took some pictures. I used snow-themed papers with environmental-themed stamps to create this layout.
School Events and Projects Schools, especially at the elementary level, are increasingly focused on Earth Day and environmental causes. If you have a child or grandchild celebrating Earth Day at school, this is a great opportunity to create a scrapbook page celebrating the environment. In this layout, my son was assigned to make a 12" x 12" Earth Day poster to hang in the classroom. We used my scrapbook supplies to make it together and after we were finished, he was so proud of it that he almost didn't want to hand it in. We took a photo of him holding it and made a layout using the same supplies, making it almost the same as the poster, but including the photo, of course. This way we had a memory of the school project to put in his scrapbook and a fun memory of making it together.
Any of type of school or community event focused on the environment is a great scrapbooking opportunity. Bring your camera and take some pictures while you are doing something good for the environment. There are other ways to celebrate the environment in your scrapbooking. Support "green" manufacturers, re-use household items as embellishments, and recycle your paper scraps. |
