Have a Heart

For centuries the heart has symbolized love. Whether romantic love, friendship love, or familial love, the heart connotes an emotional feeling.  The heart icon can be used to depict both juvenile affection, such as a crush, or stronger more grown-up feelings. Similarly, we can use the heart icon on scrapbook pages to express a variety of emotions.  Here are some layouts that demonstrate how hearts can be effectively used.

Heart 2 Heart is a fun layout using the heart icons in a whimsical way.

I (Heart) You is a simple but fun layout that gets right to the point. A large background heart cut from heart patterned paper, a title with a heart, and several punched hearts carry out the heart theme.

One of my all-time favorite artists is Scrapjazz co-founder and Blue Crew Designer, Andrea Steed.  Andrea used a heart as a background on her Oh Boy layout.  The outlined heart is a classic example of how a layout can speak to you without added journaling.  The layout simply screams LOVE!

This layout by Scrapjazz Blue Crew Designer Polly McMillan uses a single heart to declare Suzy's passion for antiques.  The single red heart really pops and adds a fun touch to the layout.

Valentine's Day is probably associated with hearts more than any other time of the year.  There are heart-shaped boxes of candy, as well as heart-shaped candies.  Jewelry, clothing, cards, picture frames and countless other items are embellished with hearts on February 14.  Here are some handcrafted cards and novelties designed by Scrapjazz Blue Crew Designers that capture Valentine's Day fun.

Another layout which incorporates hearts was designed using punches.  I used an assortment of punched hearts for Love, to reflect the theme.

Hearts are cute, pleasing to the eye and easy to make.  No wonder they are often used to embellish layouts and cards.  Whether it's one heart or many, small or large, the heart can speak without a word being spoken.
