Scrap Your Funny Bone
by Maureen Spell
(Apr 1, 2004)
Nothing can brighten my day or change my mood faster than a good laugh. We record birthdays, field trips, memorable moments, but have you thought to scrapbook your sense of humor or the sense of humor of your loved ones? My good friend Tammy has always disliked the color of her kitchen floor. Since the floor was in good shape, she had no good reason to tear it up and replace it. That is until the day the hot water line broke in the foundation! Workers had to come in, trench the foundation from the kitchen to the garage, cut through some drywall, and pull the whole line out! During that time every object in her house was adorned with a delicate layer of white dust, and she had to resort to cooking meals in her bathroom! What a trooper she was, and the whole family had such a great sense of humor about the whole mess! This was a perfect opportunity to scrapbook an event that they will definitely look back on and laugh about. ![]() Capture your sense of humor on your pages:
Of course, kids provide us with plenty of opportunities to scrap humorous events. Does your little one like to make silly faces or tell jokes? What about the things they say or words they use? Write it down and scrap it. Many times my kids blurt out the funniest things when we’re just going about our daily routine. My son provides the greatest laughs in our family. I love to see how he thinks and views things about the world. His comments continually cause me to smile! Catching your kids’ funny side:
![]() The Corn Dog Revelation (journaling) We are fortunate to be able to eat lunch with Daddy almost every day. Many times we pick Dad up from work and then get something to eat. One of our favorite places to go is Sno-To-Go. Though most tourists would pass by this little food shack, the locals overlook the rough exterior and return for its good food. Dad usually orders the taco plate, I order the southwest grilled chicken sandwich, and the kids usually get corn dogs. We’ve done this routine many times over the past couple of years. This day was no different until… “Hey Mom! Guess what!” Nate yelled excitedly. Oh the things we take for granted! You made us all smile that day with your new discovery! You found something new and exciting in what many would consider mundane and boring. Seeing this picture will always bring a smile to my face as I remember your excitement in your corn dog revelation. You can add humor on your pages by:
![]() Some quotes about humor: Every survival kit should include a sense of humor. ~Author UnknownHumor is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritation and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place. ~Mark Twain Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing. ~William James Humor is... despair refusing to take itself seriously. ~Arland Ussher A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life. ~Hugh Sidey So the next time you find yourself laughing, write it down and create a page that will evoke laughter and smiles from your family for years to come!
