Scrapbooking from the Heart

Scrapbooking is more than just creating a pretty layout. It is about life, love, experiences, and passion. It is about people, places, pets, and things. It is about ideas, thoughts, wishes, and celebrations. It is about you, me, us and them. Scrapbooking is a personal experience; therefore it is whatever you want it to be.

On this day, take time to explore yourself and your favorite things, and then do a layout about them. The layout can be as personal or as trivial as you choose, but make it reflect a piece of you. Make it tell a story, make it give the casual viewer a glimpse of the person you are. In the layout "Simple Pleasures," I captured something that starts every day for me. A coffee pot is one thing that I could probably not live without, as I start each day with a cup of coffee. I explained in the journaling how my love affair with the steamy, hot drink began.

Another artist, Kristin Stock, did a beautiful page about her collection of Sunglow pottery. Her layout, "Sunglow," describes how she began collecting pottery and how important her Sunglow collection is to her. The beauty of the pottery is reflected by the soft colors Kristin used on her layout. The close-up of a single piece of her collection is priceless. Her journaling literally speaks to you, and you can tell that she treasures Sunglow.

Scrapbooking about something you like is the perfect way to share a bit of yourself with others. In her version of "Simple Pleasures," Shaniqua Young describes her love of reading. She chose to use a photograph of a collection of books that represent her enthusiasm for reading, and then in her journaling described her personal experience with reading. The color choices invoke a vivid imagination, symbolic of her passion for books.
