Party Decorations: Valentine’s Day

by Andrea Steed (Feb 10, 2006)

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
I'm Having a Party
And Inviting YOU!

Whether you're throwing a large Valentine's Day party, a small friendly get-together, or a romantic private dinner, before you go shopping at the party store for decorations, consult a scrapbook store or your own stash of paper craft supplies. You can create simple decorations and party favors with a personal touch for this "love"ly holiday by using your scrapbooking and card-making skills. Here are several project ideas by Tammy Moore to get the love juices flowing.

Invitation

Start your festive party or get-together by creating hand-made invitations. Whether you use love-themed papers or the classic red and pink color combination, an invitation with a personal touch sends a special message to your loved ones that says you care.

by Tammy MooreSupplies:

  • Paper - SEI, Softy
  • Tag - Making Memories
  • Conversation Hearts - Jolee's
  • Font - CK Daydream

Instructions:

Print invitation onto patterned paper. Cut invitation to 4 in. x 6 in. and round corners using a corner rounding punch. Fold pieces of ribbon in half and staple to either end of a metal-rimmed tag. Place stickers on tag. Place adhesive behind the tag, hiding it behind the dimensional stickers. Attach to card.

Conversation Heart Frame

Small, inexpensive photo frames can be sweetly decorated with a candy-heart border. Use these as party favors for your guests, as place-cards at the dinner table, or as food item labels at the buffet. by Tammy MooreThey'll add a festive look to the event and keep people talking.

Supplies:

  • Acrylic frame (mine was $.85 at Wal-Mart)
  • Bag of conversation heart candy
  • Double-sided tape

Instructions:

Place double-sided tape along each edge of a plastic frame. Place conversation hearts edge-to-edge on top of tape.

Heart Garland

Don't forget the walls and doorways. Decorate your party space with heart-themed garlands. You might even want to create a custom message for your guests. You can later use them as embellishments in your layouts about the event.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock
  • Letter template
  • Craft knife
  • Foam dimensional tape
  • Ribbon

Instructions:

Cut out hearts, in pairs (of coordinating colors). Trace letters on light-colored hearts and cut out with a craft knife. Using two pieces of foam tape, layer a light heart on top of a dark heart, securing the ribbon between layers of foam. Hang!

Cupcake Toothpicks

Don't forget to dress up your party foods. These cupcake toothpicks would be adorable peeking out of the top of cupcakes covered in gooey chocolate icing. Longer toothpicks can be used to hold sandwiches together, or even to add a sweet message to the main entrée.

by Tammy MooreSupplies:

  • Stamps - Stampin' Up! (Set contains basic heart, outline, and sayings)
  • Toothpicks
  • Glue Dots

Instructions:

Stamp basic heart stamp in a light color onto white cardstock.

Stamp heart outline and phrase in a darker, coordinating color, on top of the basic heart. After image is dry, cut out heart. Attach to toothpick with a strong glue dot.

Valentine's Day is all about showing the people you love how much you care. Show it in style with hand-made decorations that will bring a personal touch to your party.
