Valentine’s Wall Décor and Centerpiece

by Polly McMillan Raymond (Feb 12, 2013)

The Valentine's Day holiday is truly a sweet one for me. Not only do I enjoy giving heartfelt gifts to those I love, I take great delight in creating crafts to decorate my home.  There's so many fun and colorful crafting products available and inspire me instantly. Here are some great product choices that would work great on any Valentine's crafty item:

Every holiday I change out the centerpiece on my dining table.  I have many crafty items I've created for holidays so I typically will choose one item for inspiration and design the centerpiece around it.  Here's a centerpiece I created using a plain wooden pencil cup as the base of the project.

I covered the pencil cup with decorative paper and then filled it with florist Styrofoam filler.  I found the sparkly hearts on a stick at my local dollar store and inserted them into the foam.  I found a K&Company 3-D valentine sticker and placed it on a punched circle of cardstock. I mounted that onto a stick and inserted it into the cup as well. I decorated the front of the cup, added a ribbon trim and filled it with a bright yellow basket filler.

My second project is a wall décor item.  I used a plain chipboard frame for this project but this Kaiser Craft Ornate Frame would make an excellent choice.

I painted my frame a fun magenta color, adhered a gingham patterned paper inside and then added my K&Company valentine 3-D sticker as the main embellishment in the center.  I added a heart charm to the bottom of the frame for a feminine touch. Some fun trim attached to a metal found object was the finishing touch to hang it on my wall.

There's nothing like bringing a holiday into your home!
