Creating Valentine’s Day Cards for Everyone in Your Life

by Amy Sotolongo (Feb 4, 2013)

I love the month of February with all the love in the air, and I love sending valentines to all my favorite people. Valentine's Day cards are different than any other card I send throughout the year. It's a card to say, "I love you and I'm glad you are in my life" and everyone wants to hear those words from time to time. I also love crafting up valentines to save money and add a "homemade" twist to the love in an envelope.

Here are some ideas for creating your own cards during this season of love:

Valentine's Day Cupcake Card

This little card is a fun one to add to homemade cookies, candy or a small gift. It was very quick and easy to create.

  • First, cut the cupcake wrapper from brown cardstock using an electronic cutter (I used my Silhouette Cameo) or hand cut it using scissors.  Add the heart stamp to the front of the wrapper using white ink.
  • Next, cut the cupcake from cream cardstock.
  • Finally, cut the heart and add the sequin in the center.
  • The cake part sits within the wrapper (the wrapper serves as an envelope) and gives you added space to write.
  • Assemble your cupcake and set aside.
  • Take your kraft card base and stamp it with a "happy" stamp all over the front of the card.
  • Next, add the cupcake to the front of the card.
  • To complete the card, tie some bakers twine to the spine of the card.

You could easily mass-produce this card and give all those you love in your life a fun cupcake-inspired valentine.

Love Card

This card is another simple card that goes together quickly.

  • Cut the heart from white cardstock on an electronic cutter (I used my Silhouette Cameo) or hand cut the heart. Stitch around the heart with red and white bakers twine.
  • Fill the heart with Candi Dots gluing them with Glossy Accents to ensure they stick well. Glue heart to the middle of your card.
  • Cut "love" out on your electronic cutter and spray it with any ink mist you prefer. Adhere "love" to the bottom of your card leaving room for a stamp across the bottom right.
  • Lastly, stamp three hearts across the bottom of your card for an added accent.

I Heart You Card

Not every card has to be red, white or pink to represent Valentine's Day.

Here is a love card that doesn't follow the typical scheme:

To create this card:

  • Cut the title "I (heart) U" using an electronic cutter. I cut mine out from black cardstock. Set aside.
  • Punch or cut out eleven hearts from a scrap piece of patterned paper. Ink the edges.
  • Take a white card base and stamp a background stamp on it using brown ink.
  • Add the Washi tape across the top and bottom of the card.
  • Next, glue the hearts four across the top and bottom, with three upside-down alternating with the right-side-up hearts.
  • Finally, glue down the "I (heart) U" and fill the middle of the heart with white buttons.
  • To finish the card, add some ribbon across the spine of the card.

Happy Day Card

I like to send Valentine's Day cards to friends and I don't really want them to be the mushy type, so here is a great option for a friend card.

To create this card:

  • Cut the background using an electronic cutter.
  • Use the circles you cut out and flip them over to create a two toned look and add them to the background design.
  • Stamp a few of the circles and add bling.
  • Add an embellishment to the center of the card and write "happy day" in the center of the circles.
  • Finally, add some twine to the spine of the card.

I hope I have inspired you to create some Valentine's Day cards for those you love.

Happy Heart Day!
