St. Patrick’s Day Box of Gold

There is something about St. Patrick's Day that is so much fun. Maybe it has to do with lots of green, leprechauns, shamrocks, rainbows and gold! If you are looking for a quick and super easy project to help celebrate this St. Patrick's Day (or to say thank you to someone on St. Patrick's Day), why not try making this little box of gold! You need a container or box of some description (recycled is even better), an Irish-themed stamp set, rainbow-colored ribbon, black ink, an adhesive runner, 3D foam, green shamrock paper and chocolate gold coins.
I kept this pretty black box from Christmas when I received nail varnish in it as a gift. It's an average box but I just couldn't part with it, knowing I would find a use!
I trimmed the themed paper to fit the top of the box and used an adhesive runner to adhere it to the box. I repeated this for all sides, but decided to keep some of the black box visible as it had a pretty swirly design on it that I simply did not want to cover up!
Because I used an adhesive runner, which is a dry adhesive, there was no need to wait for the box to dry before I moved on to the next step.
I stamped the phrase, "Lucky to have you," (from the Studio G Alison Wong St. Patrick's Day stamp set) onto some green cardstock. I mounted this onto foil green cardstock and then again onto more green cardstock. I attached this to the box using foam squares. I tied a piece of rainbow ribbon around the top of the box with a bow to finish the look. I didn't want anything too fussy on my box to take away from the paper design. If you wanted you could create a scene on top of your box, perhaps by stamping an image and coloring it in or just with some St. Patrick-themed stickers. Perhaps you want to cover it with shamrocks. How about a pretty rainbow leading to a pot of gold to hint at what may be inside? This is your time to be creative and put your own stamp on it!
Fill your box with chocolate gold coins. (A little tip is to look for sales immediately after Christmas for chocolate gold coins on sale.)
There you have it, a quick and inexpensive way of telling someone how you feel about them on St. Patrick's Day. If you set a leprechaun trap the night before with your children, maybe you could create a box for them to discover the next morning. |
