Halloween Party Decorations

by Tara Daigle (Oct 27, 2006)

Before hitting the stores in search of Halloween party decorations, why not try your hand at making them? That's what I did this year. I searched through my stash and around my house and found supplies that were perfect for an invitation, fun votive wrappers and a cute candle holder.

Invitation:

Every good party starts with an invitation. I used rub-ons from Karen Foster Design to create mine. You could substitute stickers and/or stamps for these if you are making several of them to cut down on the cost.

Supplies used:

Instructions:

  1. Print the wording using your choice of computer fonts onto the cardstock.
  2. Trim cardstock to 4 1/2 inches by 7 inches and ink the edges.
  3. Apply rub-on word and images.
  4. Mount cardstock onto Beastly Black patterned paper trimmed to 5 inches by 7 1/2 inches.

Votive Wrappers

Supplies used:

Instructions:

  1. Trim 3 strips of Beastly Black patterned paper to 1 1/4 inches by 4 1/2 inches.
  2. Adhere to votive candles.
  3. Apply stickers. You may wish to back the stickers with cardstock and then use adhesive to apply them if you don't want them to wrap around the candle.

Candle Holder:

I used a drink holder from a local fast food establishment to create this fun and easy candle holder.

Supplies used:

  • drink holder
  • Karen Foster Design patterned paper (Ghoulish Green and Beastly Black)
  • Karen Foster Design sticker (Happy Halloween)
  • Provo Craft cardstock (black)
  • Heidi Swapp acrylic paint (black)
  • Fiber Scraps fiber (Monochromatic Orange and Moss-Verdigris)
  • Mod Podge
  • foam tape or pop dots

Instructions:

  1. Adhere patterned paper to drink holder using Mod Podge or other adhesive; cover all visible areas.
  2. Brush paint around the edges using a foam brush.
  3. After the paint dries, tie the fibers around the holder.
  4. Adhere the stickers to black cardstock and then apply them to the holder using foam tape or pop dots.
  5. Add candles to complete.

These items are easy to create and will be a great addition to your holiday decorating.
