Christmas Blessings
The holiday season always brings my family and the blessing of my life into sharp focus. The time I am able to spend with my friends and family seems that much more precious. So when I think of “Christmas Time”, my mind naturally turns to the blessings in my life. This would make a great theme album, to document all the various blessings in your life. What are you blessed with? In your “Blessings in My Life” theme album, you could include layouts on:
- TALENTS: Are you blessed with any particular talents? Do you have a beautiful voice or musical ability? Are you good at crossword puzzles? Can you curl your tongue or pick things up with your toes? Create pages that include photos of you making use of a particular skill, and perhaps the end result – a crossword where you scored particularly high, or a Memory Button of your singing.
- PEOPLE: Who are the people in your life that you consider a blessing? Who makes your life easier or more pleasant? Who makes you smile every time you see them? What makes them so special? Consider making a pocket page of cards a special person has sent you to encourage you through the rough spots in your life.
- HERE’S LOOKING AT YOU: What physical attributes are you proud of? Do you have naturally curly hair? Clear blue eyes? 20/20 vision? Long legs? Who else in your family share these blessings? Take a picture of that attribute, then use an paper arrow to point to the same part on a paperdoll on your layout!
- GIFTS & PRESENTS: What gifts have you received at Christmas Time that have been a blessing? Who gave them to you? What does that gift say about you? Use tags on paper-pieced presents to indicate the gift and the giver.
- ON THE JOB: Do you have a job? How is that job a blessing? What do you love about your work? Who do you work with, that could also be considered a blessing? Consider creating an “invoice” to detail all the benefits of your work, and the fact that they are “priceless”.
- HOME SWEET HOME: What about your home? Are you blessed with a nice, safe, warm home? Is it comfortable and welcoming? Are you blessed to share your holidays with your family and friends in your own home? How do you stay warm on cold, winter nights? Make a copy of a photo of your home to create a paper-piecing pattern for embellishing!
- FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD: Do you enjoy cooking for the holidays? Are you blessed with a full table, loaded with sweet and savory family recipes? Or are you blessed in that you DON’T have to cook, and are going to a relative’s for the big meal? Rely on die cuts and a little chalk to dress up this page!
- TIME OUT!: Do you have a hobby that you take time to enjoy? Are you blessed with friends or family that also share this hobby? Stickers could make an easy border; just mat them on squares of cardstock, and pop them up on pop dots down the side of your page!
You could do a separate page on each blessing in your life, or group them into categories, with several blessings on each layout. You might be surprised how many blessings fill your book. You could also get outside input, and include journaling from your family on what blessings they see in your life. Discuss what the term “blessing” means, and look for examples of blessings in your home. Maybe you can create a layout together on all the blessings your family enjoys. After all, that’s what the holidays are all about – enjoying the blessings of family. Application: Christmas time is a good time to remember your blessings. This layout incorporates a list of gifts I received for Christmas 2001. With the list, I also included my thoughts on what each gift revealed to me about the giver. It’s a great layout to look back on and remember the people and things that were important to me at that time.
