Christmas Shadowbox

I've had this shadowbox in my studio for years, brand-new but dusty and still in the packaging. I was always intimidated by the size as it's larger than the small desktop shadowboxes I had created in the past. I decided it was time to create a project with this, and I wanted it to be something I could hang on my wall during the Christmas Season. This shadowbox measures 15" x 12" and each opening has a depth of 1". I knew some of the items I wanted to use would not fit within the 1" depth so I removed the glass. By doing this I gave the project a real 3-D effect.
I chose some fun Christmas-themed products and mixed and matched the papers in the square openings. The blingy embellishments I added for some sparkle. Supplies Used:
A few tips I wanted to share about creating shadowboxes: 1) Don't limit yourself to one item per opening. If your item is too large, spread it across two openings. I did this with the ‘JOY' sparkle letters and the red chipboard swirl. I cut the swirl and after I adhered it, you can't even tell it was ever cut! 2) Remove the glass so you can use items that otherwise would not fit. 3) Use dimensional adhesive on your embellishments to add one more layer of dimension to your shadowbox.
I intentionally left a few of the openings empty. Friends and family know how much I love Christmas and they gift me ornaments and trinkets. I now have a place to display them and they can be rotated out over the years! |
