Scrapping Holiday Food

One highlight of the holidays is the different foods we get to eat. Sometimes it is food we only get once each year and that makes it extra special. Sometimes it is a combination of foods or a special meal. Whatever foods you enjoy the most at the holidays, take some time to photograph those foods and create layouts about them. Photographs. Keep your camera ready during the holidays when cooking or serving meals. Use the tips for food photography in the article Photo Challenge: Food for getting the best photographs. Use the best camera you have available and set up the shot if possible. If necessary, use a flash, but natural light will look much better. Most importantly, take a photo of the food as soon after it is done to get the best look. Topics. There are many topics to scrapbook about related to food during the holidays. What is your family's favorite holiday food? You can scrapbook about favorite foods or other foods that are only served at the holidays. If you cook for the holidays, you can scrap about your experiences. Do you enjoy it? What's your favorite to make? Often people have recipes that have been passed down from their relatives. Do you have any recipes from family or friends for special foods that you eat during the holidays? Make a scrapbook page about these recipes including the story of how you got the recipe. Other food-related things you could scrap include the menu for the holiday meal, adventures in grocery shopping, recipe substitutions, a recipe that didn't turn out quite right or a favorite holiday restaurant. In my layout "Making the Right Cookies," I journaled about how my daughter has specific cookies that she wants every Christmas.
Layout Design. Each of the above topics can become an individual layout or even an album of layouts related to holiday food. How you choose to design the layout will probably depend on the photographs. If you have photographs to use on your page, gather all the ones together that you would like to use for a particular layout. Decide whether they need to be cropped and/or what size the photographs should be printed. Design your layout looking at the type of photographs you have. Choose an appropriate title and don't forget to leave room for journaling. If the food featured in the holiday involves a special recipe, then you could include a copy of the recipe in the layout. The colors of the cardstock and patterned papers could reflect the colors of the foods of typical colors for the holiday, such as fall colors for Thanksgiving. Keep your camera handy, take notes about your favorite holiday foods and then scrapbook about them later. You'll enjoy the memories for years to come. Digital Supplies from DesignerDigitals:
