Veterans Day Ideas for Your Scrapbook

by Denise Gormish (Nov 9, 2012)

Veterans Day is a holiday in the United States to honor and thank the veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It is a day that can be observed in many ways including parades and special ceremonies.

Photographs. The photographs you take will depend on how you celebrate Veterans Day. If you attend a parade, make sure you take photographs of the parade, especially the veterans that are in the parade. If you attend a special ceremony, take photographs of the ceremony if it is appropriate. Getting a photograph with a wide-angle lens or from a farther distance will give perspective to the event. Alternatively, you can take photographs of little details such as flowers or a flag.

Journaling. This is a time to dig deep with your journaling and write about something that means a lot to you. Do you have a veteran in your family? Has a veteran had an influence on your life? How have veterans influenced your life and the freedom that you have? Consider topics like this that make Veterans Day a time of honoring those veterans.

Supplies. When putting a scrapbook page together, gather scrapbook supplies that would enhance your page. Military and patriotic paper, chipboard, stickers and die cuts would all work well on a Veterans Day page. Stamps with words such as hero and solider by We R Memory Keepers would especially honor veterans. Stars and flags are always a good edition to any patriotic page.

Layout Design. Layouts about Veterans Day often work well with a red, white and blue color scheme. If you are considering a specific branch of the military, use colors from that branch. If you have any photographs of places that honor veterans such as Arlington National Cemetery, you can use your photographs as a background image behind the entire layout or behind the journaling. Consider using a font that has a patriotic feel to it such as Pentagon or Stars and Stripes.

However you celebrate Veterans Day, take photographs and write down your memories and observations. These will make beautiful scrapbook pages that honor all U.S. veterans.
