Holiday Thank You Cards

by Heidi Anne Giebel (Dec 22, 2010)

People have been sending each other greeting cards for centuries, a trend originating in China and Egypt. In the early 14th century, giving greeting cards began to catch on in Europe and by the mid 1800s inexpensive, mass-produced cards were popular for everyone. This increase in the popularity of greeting cards was aided by the introduction of the first postage stamp in 1840 and the perfection of manufacturers’ printing methods.

In today’s era of modern technology the handmade thank-you card ranks low on the priority list, but it doesn’t have to. Handmade thank-you cards are as fun to make as they are to receive, and send the recipient a strong message of friendship, thoughtfulness and affection.

Here are some hints and tips for making your own holiday thank-you cards.

  • Choose one size and style of card, and then set up an assembly line to create multiple cards.
  • Use the leftover scraps of paper from your holiday scrapbook pages to create your thank-you cards.
  • Cut up the holiday cards you receive in the mail and recycle them into thank-you cards.
  • Use Christmas or winter die cuts for the front of your holiday thank-you cards.
  • Ask your children to help you create some holiday thank-you cards. These are the cards that will be most meaningful to grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Here are a few examples of holiday thank-you cards for inspiration.
