Kindergarten to High School Graduation Layouts

by Polly McMillan Raymond (May 30, 2012)

With graduation comes the promise of exciting goals and the unknown adventures of the future.  As a scrapbooker since 1996, I knew the importance of saving the memories through photographs and the memorabilia from my children's events.  For this article I decided not only to focus on high school graduation, but kindergarten and junior high graduation as well.  I do have two boys in college but since they have not graduated yet, the college graduation layouts will come at a later date.

For my kindergarten graduation layout, I used a vintage-looking school collection from We R Memory Keepers. To keep the vintage feel alive, I turned the photos to sepia tone before printing them.

Junior high school graduation is a milestone as well.  I was happy to capture a photo of the girls with their grandparents and of course wanted to use it on a layout.  I kept the layout simple to keep the main focus on the photo.

Some things to consider:

  • It may be busy and hectic at a graduation event but do take as many photos as possible. You will want lots of options to choose from when considering a graduation layout.

  • Save the certificates and handouts from the graduation event. I have a portable file folder holder and keep all of my kids' keepsake paperwork inside. It's filed away under easy-to-find categories such as "GRADUATIONS," "BIRTHDAYS," etc. I may not use what I've saved for years, but I sure know where to find it when the time comes!

  • Use pockets on your graduation layouts to hold all of the important information from the event.

I have two examples for high school graduation layouts.  Sometimes I create layouts as gifts for family and have learned that keeping them simple is the way I'm assured I will complete it in a timely manner. If I overthink it, I'm not as likely to complete the layout.

For a layout that will include keepsake paperwork and such, I create a layout that takes a bit more time. I might use a pocket and also include more details from the event. This type of layout will be included in a scrapbook I keep for myself or will some day give to my children.

This year's graduations are just around the corner. Have fun and be sure to snap lots of photos for your graduation scrapbook pages!
