National Popcorn Day
by Cindy deRosier
(Jan 21, 2013)
Happy National Popcorn Day! Did you know that popcorn is one of the most popular snacks in the United States? Americans eat an average of 52 quarts per person each year! Popcorn is also one of the oldest snacks, dating back thousands of years. Air-popped popcorn is high in fiber, low in calories, low in fat, inexpensive, and easy to make. What's not to love?!
I recently came across a picture of my son at age two, squatting next to our hot air popper and watching with great curiosity. It was the first time he'd seen popcorn popping. Soon after, he tasted it for the first time and was hooked. The next time we made popcorn, I snapped a quick picture of him next to the same hot air popper. What fun to scrap two popcorn pictures taken four years apart!
Here are some other layouts I found in the Scrapbook.com gallery featuring popcorn. Love Popcorn by Seatrout: To put it simply, this layout is FUN! The colors are so bright and the mix of patterns complements the pictures of the four kids goofing around with popcorn. Popcorn by Skrapaddict: Here's another layout that is just popping with color! The pictures of the toddler trying popcorn for the first time are adorable. Sunday Night Popcorn by Cornellgj: This artist documented the youngest members of the family finally being old enough to join in a family tradition they have had for years - enjoying popcorn together each a Sunday night. Jiffy Pop Popcorn by Nrthwdscrapper: Those of us who enjoyed popcorn before the invention of the microwave remember the fun of Jiffy Pop. Did you know it's still made? This layout is a fun tribute to Jiffy Pop! Popcorn Lover by Mandolin: This page uses school-themed background paper and colors to highlight a child's love of popcorn. Popcorn {FUN}draising by Lisa-lu: As a first-year Cub Scout mom, I had my first experience with popcorn sales in the fall. This artist is documenting her youngest son's last year selling popcorn as a Cub Scout. The 100 Dollar Popcorn Kernel by Amy Hummel: A title like that draws you in, doesn't it?! This artist tells the story of a trip to the doctor to remove a kernel of corn from her daughter's ear. Pepsi and Popcorn by TanishaRenee: This artist documented her favorite snack- ice cold Pepsi and microwave popcorn. The layout is simple, bright, and really pops. I hope these layouts inspire you to celebrate National Popcorn Day in style. Don't forget to take pictures! Supplies:
