Simple Fall Cards Using Decorative Tape
by Nora Noll
(Nov 14, 2012)
Fall is here. To celebrate my favorite season, I created some festive fall cards. I decided I wanted to use simple designs so I could replicate them easily and I challenged myself to use Washi tape as an embellishment.
For the first card I created, I used a technique that utilizes tape in a fun way.
I first die-cut a leaf pattern on a piece of Kraft cardstock measuring 4 ¼" by 10 3/4" using my Silhouette digital cutter. You could do this same type of technique with paper punches or a conventional die-cut machine too. I folded the card so that the back was about a ¼" longer then the front. I then cut a piece of kraft cardstock measuring 4 ¼" by 5 ½" and traced the leaf pattern from the die-cut image onto the paper.
My next step was to adhere a strip of tape along the bottom of the 4 ¼" by 5 ½" piece of cardstock. I then covered the traced images with tiny pieces of different colored ripped tape. I chose to use different tape colors for each leaf to mimic the varied colors on real leaves as they slowly change.
I adhered the taped cardstock underneath the die-cut images, added some twine and a button and the card was complete.
The second card I designed was even easier to create. I started with a piece of folded white cardstock measuring 4 ¼" by 11" and inked brown ink around the edges. I adhered randomly sized pieces of different colored tape onto the front of the card.
I then created a banner strip out of a scrap piece of cardstock and stamped a fall greeting. Before I adhered it to the card, I inked the edges in brown. The last step I took was to adhere a punched leaf and a button tied with twine as an extra fall touch.
