Christ-centered Scrapbooking
Incorporating my Christian faith into my scrapbooks is second nature to me. As in creating any project or scrapbook, it just takes planning. Just as you wouldn't forget to take your camera to the zoo (hopefully), be purposeful in including scripture in your projects. HOW? There are two ways I keep my scrapbooking Christian-based. The first way is that I come up with a general topic or idea and then I find photos to match. This works best if you're trying to get a point across as I did with the layout titled, "1Peter." My daughter was going through a time in her life where she wondered a lot about beauty. I wanted to teach her and remind her of what the Bible says about true beauty: it's inner beauty. Scrapjazz's own Patter also posts regular scripture challenges in the challenge forum to get your mind going. For both of my mini books, I had the idea in my head and I used pictures that went with the theme. My "Give Thanks" book was to help me not to complain. My "Pumpkin Prayer" book was me putting a Christian spin on a pagan holiday. The other way I add scripture to my scrapbook is using it as my journaling. Sure, it sounds a lot like what I mentioned before, but it's different. I scrapbook the page as normal, but when it comes time to add the title and/or journaling, I go to scripture. This process works best for photographs with no theme and/or leftover event photographs. If your photo does have a theme, you can look in the back of your Bible for scriptures related to the topic, or you can visit my favorite source, www.biblegateway.com. I love this site because it lets you choose the translation of the scripture and/or read it in context. For "Wave Chaser" I found lyrics to a song about waves and tweaked the words to fit my daughter. I also used the same technique for "Fingerprints of God." You can find Christian lyrics at www.christianlyrics.com by typing your topic in the search engine. WHY? I believe that I was created to glorify Him who created me, in all that I do. Why would scrapbooking or any other hobby not fit into the category? If I attend church weekly and bible studies biweekly, read the Bible at least four times per week, as well as teach a Christian-based homeschool curriculum daily, I would be safe in saying that Christ is a huge part of our family. There are people who scrapbook their pets, so why not scrapbook about the creator of the universe! I also scrapbook about Christ to inspire, encourage and worship. On my layout "Comfort and Joy" I wanted to tell future generations what I believe and what comforts me. Just reading it now encourages me to worship. I also want to inspire such worship and adoration in my kids. In the layout, "Walk on the Beach," I am encouraging my daughter to build her own personal relationship with God. It's just a picture of her on the beach, but I used it to glorify God. For these leftover pictures of the park, I created "Fruit of the Spirit." Incorporating scripture in my scrapbooks is important to me. I want my kids to know that I believe this life is not our own. We are here to serve our God and glorify Him always. Including scripture or Christ-centered journaling in your scrapbooks is much like including them in your life. It's just what Christians do. I hope that you are encouraged to include more into your scrapbooks. It's actually quite freeing. There are no worries about how you sound or say things. The perfect author of the Bible has already done it for you.
