Step-by-Step: iPod Elation

by Trish Dykes (Apr 15, 2010)

Last year for our daughter’s birthday, we bought her an iPod©. We knew that she loved listening to music, so we thought it would be a gift both enjoyed and used.

Nothing could have prepared us for her reaction when she opened it. From shock to total elation in under ten seconds! Although I didn’t capture her initial joy with my camera, she was still beaming an hour later as we sat together loading it with songs for the first time.

For my layout, I wanted to reflect that same sense of excitement and playfulness that she expressed that day. Here is how I did it.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut a piece of the Will You patterned paper to 2 ½" by 7 1/4". Adhere to the cardstock. Then cut a piece of the Bee Mine patterned paper to 5" by 8 ½". Glue in place on the cardstock, overlapping the bottom 1/4" of the first paper. Turn over the remaining 3 ½" by 5" piece of the Bee Mine paper to the bright green side. Tear it to expose the white core.  Place it on the left side of the photo block, as desired.

  2. Adhere a photo. Punch a folk heart shape out of a scrap of red cardstock and a circle out of a scrap of white cardstock. Add a pewter brad to the right side of the heart and glue to the layout on the left edge of the photo. Cut the words ‘pure love’ from the reverse side of the Will You patterned paper and glue over the top of the heart. Glue the white circle to the upper right side of the layout. Position the chipboard star on top and adhere.

  3. Make the title with the Thickers and Winsome alphabet stickers. Turn the letter ‘O’ in the word elation to resemble a mouth and place it on the layout. Use the Signo pen to draw eyes above the smile to create a smiley face. With a ruler and black Sakura pen, draw straight lines around the layout 1/4" in from the edge on all four sides. Finish the layout by writing your journaling across the bottom.
