The Screenplay of Your Life

by Tiffany Roberts (Mar 11, 2008)

Here is a fun idea for a single layout, or even a whole mini-book project: "Scrapbooking the Screenplay of Your Life." Think about how your life relates to a popular movie or play, or use a screenplay format for a unique perspective on the players, director, and "scenes" that make up your everyday life.

In my layout entitled Some Kind of Wonderful I used this theme to create a fun look at our day-to-day life. ‘Title,' ‘Plot,' ‘Leading Man,' ‘Leading Lady,' ‘Supporting Cast,' and ‘Opening Scene' are all described in the journaling.

You could easily take this theme further and create a mini-book that has a layout dedicated to each of these key components. Think of all the creative ways this idea could be brought to life within your scrapbook. Is your life a hilarious comedy, a deeply personal memoir, or something straight out of science fiction? There are elements in each of these themes that would be really fun to translate to a scrapbook project.

You can take this idea and translate it to your next vacation or special event album too. Use journaling or other embellishments to label the "acts" or "scenes" of each event as well as the starring and supporting cast. It would be a very cute way to scrap photos from a girls' getaway, a concert, and numerous other special activities you participate in. This would also work very well for the days and weeks leading up to the final production of Christmas. All of the early steps can be documented in this format with the grand finale being Christmas morning.

If you had several heritage photos of someone that spanned several years this theme could be used to document the changes in that person's life. Each act could represent a different time in life, who was involved, what he or she was doing, and where he or she was geographically at that time. It's a unique way to create a timeline to follow your ancestors' changing lives and the changes in the world around them.

2_65I used this screenplay idea when creating the cover for these home movies. The DVD cases were so plain, I thought it would be a fun idea to play on the movie theme and create a mini layout about the movies. These sure are more fun to look at than those boring old clear sleeves ever were!

Supplies:

So what's the title of your life's screenplay? Are you Sleepless in Seattle, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Roman Holiday, or maybe something else all together? No matter what movie you relate to, everyone can use this formula to create a layout or mini book with dynamic journaling that both friends and family will enjoy reading.
