Matching Your Layout Style to Your Teen’s Interests

by Polly McMillan Raymond (Mar 21, 2012)

I have a layout style that I would describe as colorful and quirky, with lots of layers of fun patterns and textures.  Those same words could be said for fashion, which happens to be an interest of my 16-year-old daughter Lauren. She loves fun clothing styles and sometimes creates her own unique pieces.  Of course when you love fashion, shopping would be the likely activity to feed that passion.  I've created layouts showcasing both of those interests.

A few points to consider for scrapbooking your teen's interests:

  • Make sure to get photos of your teen while involved in one or more of his or her interests.
  • Save items associated with those interests, for example musical programs or newspaper articles, that may have showcased your teen.  You can include those items on layouts in pockets.
  • Keep those items in mind when shopping for scrapbooking supplies because eventually you will find the embellishment that not only matches YOUR style, it also matches the items you have saved.
  • Ask questions - maybe there's some info you didn't even realize about your teen's interests and that info will spark inspiration in you.

A teen's interests can change so quickly so be sure to capture them in some teen-themed scrapbook pages while you can!
