3 Ways to Involve a Man in Scrapbooking

I’ll never forget the look of gratitude my husband gave me when I showed him the album I made celebrating his college graduation. “I think this is some of your BEST work!” he exclaimed, as he carefully turned the pages.

I am blessed to have a supportive husband who truly loves to look at my layouts, but he especially cherishes the scrapbooking creations I’ve made just for him. I’ve learned a few tricks over the years for making my masculine projects a little more…well, masculine.

1. Create an album, or layout, specifically about HIM.
You can choose to highlight an event in his life, as I did for my husband’s graduation, or a hobby he enjoys. By creating something all about him, you’re expressing your love and admiration for him.

2. Create a “Thank You” mini-album for him.
What has the man in your life done for you? Don’t stress about making this completely serious; just enjoy the process! In my album, for instance, I thanked my husband for everything from always taking out the trash and squishing bugs to being a wonderful father.

3. Ask for his input.
Let your man know about your project and ask for his input! Ask him to tell you his memories of an event, and use that as first-hand journaling. Ask him what colors you should use on a layout (give him choices) and he’ll probably have an opinion. Take him into your local scrapbooking store and ask him to look for items he likes of a certain color or theme. Don’t judge his choices, and make sure to use his ideas, no matter what they are! The time you spend together will be a gift in itself.

So, what if you’re not married? Why not make a gift for your father, brother, boyfriend, grandfather, son, preacher, teacher, or male friend? Create from your heart, and share the process with the man you love. His heartfelt “Thanks” will be more than worth it.
