Monsters, Bugs and Dinosaurs... Oh My!!

by Georgina Hefferman (Jun 15, 2010)

If you have little boys in your family, you will know of their love of all things scary or gross. They enjoy being scared by big hairy monsters (or pretending to be one). They absolutely have to pick up every bug in the garden and look at it in great detail and they simply know everything there is to know about dinosaurs. In addition, they tend to make a mess in the process, but do you know what? It makes for great scrapbook pages!

I thought I would share with you a few ideas on how to incorporate monsters, bugs and dinosaurs into your scrapbook pages and cards. Here are my examples to hopefully provide a little inspiration.

I smile every time I look at this layout. My cute  little nephew decided it would be fun to chase me and my camera around the garden with his face smeared with chocolate! He was roaring and yelling in the process, of course, and so I nicknamed him the chocolate monster.  I made the monster myself by searching online and finding some pictures I liked, mixed them into one monster, traced it onto some paper and then colored it in and cut around the outline. I added some googly eyes for an extra effect.

Bugs can be quite useful on “get well” cards! Here is a quick and simple card I made of a bug caught in a jam jar for my friend when she was sick.

Here’s another layout of my nephew. He takes great pride in dressing up and adored this dinosaur costume. I embellished this layout with some 3D stickers of dinosaurs to add dimension.

There are of course numerous ways in which you can incorporate these creatures into your cards and layouts. Check out some of my favorite products from the Scrapbook.com store:

How about these for some title inspiration:

  • Jurassic Park
  • Dino-mite
  • Monster Mash
  • Monster Madness
  • Mini Monster Mischief
