Birthday Layouts: One Sketch, One Collection, Three Layouts

I am not typically an events scrapper, but I took this assignment in order to challenge myself to scrap my nephew's first birthday photos. I enlisted the help of Kristine Davidson from Creative Scrappers since she is a fantastic sketch artist. I was thrilled when she emailed me this sketch:
The banners screamed birthday and the layers called to my Cakewalk papers and embellishments by October Afternoon.
Layout #1: Happy Days I took this sketch and created this layout:
I love using sketches as a jumping off point, and then adding my own personal touches. For this layout I used the Cakewalk papers and embellishments to showcase my photos. I wanted to include the number ‘one' on the layout, and decided to put the letters down the middle to define the number. I also used the star embellishments to create a visual triangle within the layout. Techniques used:

Layout #2: Birthday Boy
This is an example of a simple layout using simple techniques. I wanted the focal point to be my photo, so I used the Cakewalk patterned paper to showcase and draw the eye to photo. I also created a visual triangle using the round embellishments. Products Used:
Layout #3: XoXo
This is another example of a layout that is simple in nature and focuses on the photo. I used my scraps of patterned paper to create a background pattern. The "Xo" background contributes to the journaling and also allows for a linear place to journal. I framed the photo to draw the eye in and added the label to the photo to allow for the date.
