Step-by-Step: Explore

by Kayla Richards (Aug 6, 2008)

Since summer is in full season, I am willing to bet those of you with children have some recent park photos. When I saw the double-sided Euphoria
paper by We R Memory Keepers, I instantly thought of playtime layouts! One side of the paper resembles tumbling in the green grass, and the other is a mixture of fun flowers and punchy red and turquoise colors. I grabbed my park photos and started "playing!"

Instructions:

  1. I first trimmed the sheet of patterned paper to 8 ½" x 11". I made sure to trim the paper so I would have ample scraps of the blue and flower papers on the backside of the paper. I used this single sheet of paper for all the paper elements on my layout (other than the black Bazzill photo mat). I then inked the edges of the background paper.

  2. Next, I cut a photo mat from the black Bazzill cardstock. I didn't measure, I just "eyeballed" it to the size I desired. I inked the edges of my photo, and adhered the photo to the mat and both to my layout, as shown.

  3. I then use the flower scrap paper to create the circles shown on the layout. I cut five flowers with my circle punch, and inked those edges as well. I adhered four to the right side of the photo, and one to the left. Layer the circles as you desire!

  4. Then, I made use of the blue and red scraps I had left over from trimming the paper. I didn't measure these either, I just cut them to length I liked, and layered them to the left of the photo. I used decorative scissors on the blue paper. (Be sure to save enough blue paper for the journaling block!) I layered them underneath the flower circle to add some dimension and fun to the layout.

  5. Now, I used my extra blue paper for the journaling block. I first rounded one edge (the upper right) to match the circle theme of the layout (circle flowers, circles on background paper). I inked the edges, and tucked the block under the flower circles and photograph.

  6. The final step was to add my journaling and title.

  7. Now go "play" and create a layout like this of your very own!
