Oh Baby - Photo Opportunities
Scrapbooking baby memories is one of the best investments you will make in your scrapping adventure! Babies grow up all too fast. If you are fortunate enough to be scrapbooking prior to your baby’s arrival, you have a wonderful opportunity to record his/her accomplishments while everything is new and exciting. If you are currently working on baby books for your older children, fear not, a creative memory will get you far! When you begin to plan for your baby scrapbook, make time and space for noting the events surrounding the news of your pregnancy. If you have the test, a photo of you holding the test or even a photo of you at around the time you found out, why not start the story with there? Journal about your feelings and expectations, and the response of your husband, parents, siblings and friends. As your pregnancy progresses, remember to have photos taken of your changing shape and to note how you were feeling and other pregnancy related information. Ultrasound photos are wonderful mementos for the scrapbook. You can have a lot of fun designing a page with the photos and the news of whether you are expecting a boy or girl...or twins! If you have waited to be surprised, why not journal a poll of family opinions of who they think the baby will be? Don’t forget to photograph the nursery as it is being assembled and it’s completion. You won’t always have that room to wander to for daydreaming, keep the memory forever in your scrapbook. Photos of labor and delivery are special and sometimes private mementos of a very exciting time. For the photos you would like to keep private, try using a flip up. Journal the time and special information on the outside and put the photos inside the flap. (see figure 1) Remember to keep the ID bracelets for mom and baby. These can be placed on a page in a memorabilia pocket with other special non-photo mementos from the birth day. From this point onward, the camera is sure to be in overdrive! (Remember to have that camera out for second, third, fourth....babies also!) The opportunities for capturing your baby’s sweet ways on film are endless, from the “burrito” look of a newborn to the list of first accomplishments. Take time during the first year to make “just because” photos of hands, feet, chubby knees and peaceful sleep. These types of photos draw attention to the little joys a baby brings. Get creative by adding journaling from grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings and friends. Use calendar pages (these can be easily made with a multitude of computer print shop software programs) to document milestones and then slip them in chronologically throughout the scrapbook. Pocket pages come in handy for cards, announcements, newspaper clippings, hospital bills and more. Making hand prints of your little one at different stages can be a fun way to preserve their growth, as well as photographing the baby by the same stuffed animal or piece of furniture at different intervals of development. Last, but definitely not least, remember to include family traditions, cultural traditions and religious celebrations in the baby’s book. These events all tie your new family member to their personal history and will be priceless memories for future generations. Warmest wishes to you as you embark on the adventure of scrapping your babies first year!!!!!! Come see baby layouts in our Oh Baby gallery! And upload YOUR baby layouts to the jazzclub gallery!
