All About Me: Everyday

by Denise Gormish (Sep 7, 2006)

"All About Me" scrapbooking features pages and albums devoted to yourself. These treasured albums give your family and friends insight into your thoughts and feelings. It also gives perspective on your life.

One way to give perspective on your life is to create pages and albums that celebrate the things that make that up your "everyday." Think about things that you touch, see and smell every day. What objects, activities and people make you happy? In your scrapbooks add these things. Here are some ideas to get you started.

  • Objects. Look around you. There are objects and things that make up a part of your every day. These objects are worth including in your scrapbook. What objects make life easier for you? What objects make life fun for you? What objects do you love to look at every day? Consider your favorite foods and clothing. Also consider everyday objects like your computer, your washing machine, and kitchen utensils. Anything that you use can become the topic of a scrapbook page. I love flowers. I love having flowers in the house. I love looking at flowers in the backyard. This simple object gives me great joy so I wrote about it and included it in my scrapbook. In my layout, "Organized," I included photographs of my purse and day planner and wrote about my daily organizational scheme.

  • People. Consider people beyond your family who influence, inspire and love you everyday.
  • Symbols and Numbers. Do you fill out forms with a checkmark or an "X"? What's your favorite number? What time do you get up in the morning? What time do you go to bed? Consider all the numbers you come across in your everyday life. Include these fun, but mundane things in your scrapbooks.
  • Phrases. Don't forget everyday phrases that may be used in your house or with your friends. Write those down and make them a part of your scrapbook. Too soon the phrase will pass and will be forgotten.
  • Activities. Things that are a part of our everyday lives can get lost in the urge to scrapbook about the big events. The first days of school are important but also include the everyday events. Consider rituals, habits and events. Do you have a morning routine you follow? Do you take a nap or have a quiet reading time every day? Do you have a TV show you watch everyday? Consider the events that make up your usual day.

Everyday scrapbooking reminds us to look at what we are doing today and enjoy what we are doing right now. Don't get hung up on scrapping the "important stuff." Have fun with the things that are all around you. Take a look and you'll find some great layout ideas.
