My Little Book of Confessions

by Tiffany Roberts (Jul 2, 2007)

I have a confession to make: I'm not perfect. Shocking, I know! My family and close friends will be able to attest to the fact that I have numerous small, goofy flaws that make me the unique individual that I am. Some of these things are a little more embarrassing than others, but each one is fun to document with a silly photo and some heartfelt journaling.

To create my mini album I started by making a list of my confessions. The ones I chose to document are: 1. I purchase way more supplies than I use. 2. I always need a pedicure. 3. I am a plant killer. 4. I am a Diet Coke addict. 5. I have a never-ending pile of laundry.

I then set out to document these confessions by photographing things that represented them. I chose photos [K1] of my scrapbook pens, my toes, a dead plant, cans of soda, and a pile of laundry.

I decided to keep my mini book simple. I trimmed cardstock into 4" x 12" strips and folded each one to make a two-sided page that would hold a 4" x 6" photo, once it was trimmed down a bit, and journaling on the opposite side.

Other than the two sheets of cardstock I used to create my pages, all of the supplies used in this mini book came from my scrap bin. Small pieces of patterned paper, rub-on letters, sticker strips, corners, brads, ribbons, and tags were all I needed to get the casual, whimsical look I was after.

To keep things cohesive I chose to outline all my small patterned scraps in black pen. I also chose to use a single font style, P22 Garamouche, for all of my journaling.

After layering some patterned papers on the background pages I added my photos and some embellishments. Journal boxes were put on the opposite pages, and then each set of pages was adhered together - front to back - using double-sided Tacky Tape.

There are numerous other ways you could assemble your mini book. You could create large tags to hold each photo and assemble them with bookbinding rings, you could use mini-file-folder pages, you could try altered playing cards in an Altoids tin, or you could even create your own custom album by reusing old CD's and altering them. If you wanted to take on a larger project with this theme I suggest creating an entire 8" x 8" scrapbook with a few layouts dedicated to each family member's little confessions. What a fun coffee table book for friends and family to take a peek through when they visit!
