Words are important to a scrapbook page. Words are used for titles, journaling and embellishments. Words provide focus and interest to a page. For a different look, numbers can be added to a scrapbook page. They can be subtle but they can also be bold, providing another element for the layout. Here are several ideas for embellishing a layout with numbers. Titles. Numbers can be inserted into your title. The number can represent the written form of the number. For instance the title can be "3 Wishes" instead of "Three Wishes." A number can also be added to a subtitle. The year in its numerical form can be added to a title, such as "Girl Scout 2010." To make the number stand out, use a different font or type of number such as using a wood or chipboard number combined with letter stickers. Numerical Background. Numbers can be used as a background element to a page. It can peek out from behind a photo or provide the background for a title. It can also be used as a border across the page. In my layout, "Captured," I used a numerical ribbon trim behind the photos and across the page.
Blocked Numbers. If your scrapbook page lends itself to a colorblocked style, then consider adding a number into that block. The number can be big and bold, emphasizing a numerical aspect of the layout. The blocked area can be cardstock or it could be made of another element such as a photo frame, a square die cut or chipboard. Numerical Counting. Numbers can be used subtly or more boldly as a way to count something. It could be a countdown or a list of items. The numbers can be created with computer fonts, chipboard, stickers, or pen. In my layout, "10 Things I love About You," I used a variety of fonts to highlight the numbers in the layout
Numerical Repetition. Another way to use numbers is to repeat them throughout the layout. You could even place the numbers so they create a visual triangle. Another form of repetition would be repeating the numbers over and over in a blocked area or as a border. A great number to repeat would be a person's age on a birthday layout. A special date, time or score would also be appropriate. Think about numbers that are used throughout your day. Numbers make nice embellishments and add interest to your layout. Consider adding numbers to your next layout. Products from DesignerDigitals:
