Journaling with Digital Elements
Bored with the same plain text journaling box? Or just looking for something cool to do with your journaling? Then consider sprucing up a journaling box with digital elements. All you need is photo editing software. A journaling block can be created with text, photographs and/or digital elements. Check the Internet for sources of free digital elements. To create a journaling block follow these steps: - Create a Document. In photo editing software chose File - New. Type a document size - either the same size or larger (oversized) than the journaling block. Select RBG color and a background color.
- Add the Journaling Block. If your entire file is the journaling block, skip this step. If your journaling block will also include other elements such as photos, backgrounds or graphics , then create an image which will be the entire journaling block. Then, using a drawing tool, select the area for the journaling. Chose Edit - Fill and chose a color for the journaling block. In my layout, I created a journaling block with a white journaling space to fit below three digital photographs and a title all placed on a shaded background.
The layout, "Rock Star" is an example of combining digital text, photographs and other elements on the same oversized journaling block. After adding the desired digital elements, I cropped the journaling block to the appropriate size to print and place the entire collage onto my layout. Note: If your photo processing software allows it, add a new layer each time a new text or an element is added. This keeps the items unlinked until you are finished. Merge the layers when finished. - Add Text. Select the text tool. Chose a journaling font, color, and size. Type your journaling. If your journaling is long, break it up into several layers of text, which can be moved separately. For the text on my "Joy" layout, I made a new layer for every sentence of the journaling. It allowed me to move the text, resize or change colors easily.
- Add Elements. Depending on your desires, add either photographs or digital elements.
- Photographs. If necessary, resize photographs to appropriately fill your document file. Then cut and paste your photographs into your document.
- Digital Elements. Some digital options include digital papers, stamps, overlays, frames, etc. If the item is a file, open it then resize as appropriate. Cut and paste the item on to the file. If the item is created by using a digital brush, select the brush and click on your file to stamp it. Arrange the items. For my "Rock Star" layout, I added a Rhonna Farrer swirl embellishment below the text.
- Print. Print your journaling block on to photo paper (if photographs are included) or on to cardstock. Add traditional scrapbook patterned paper, cardstock and /or other embellishments if desired.
"Joy" is an example of combining text with digital elements in the journaling block, without the photographs. The photographs, title and other elements were added after printing the journaling block. With the use of your photo editing software, you can create beautiful journaling blocks for your layout.
