All About Clear Albums
Transparencies have been all the rage, so naturally, clear albums have become the perfect complement to them. You can see through the pages and layer the elements just like you would when you use transparencies on a regular layout page. You can make your own clear albums, or buy them if you want something more finished. To Make:
You can buy a 30" by 36" pane of plexiglass (the thinnest size) from a home improvement store and cut it into 6" x 6" pieces (you get 30 6" x 6" pieces from the 30" x 36" pane). Some stores such as Lowes will cut it for free at the store, so you don't to have to at home. It is wise to sand the edges, because they are quite rough when they are cut. Peel the protective layer off the acrylic. The Crop-A-Dile will punch holes through it, but if it is making your acrylic crack, you can also use a drill to make holes. Buy some 1" or 2" binding rings, bind your pages together, and voila! Your homemade clear album! To Buy:
- Pageframe Designs has a variety of designs and shapes for their clear albums including a 4" x 4" album, a 6" x 6" album, an 8" x 8" album, and a 5"x 8" album, as well as albums in circle, flower, heart, house, and tag shapes. Each have nine pages included.
- D Reeves Design House also has a variety of sizes such as 3" x 3", 3" x 5", 4" x 6.5", 6"x 6", 8" x 8" and 12" x 12".
- Maya Road has a ton of new designs including a 5" tab book, crown coaster album, round scallop coaster album, sheer snowflake coaster album, square scallop coaster album, and arrow coaster album. All albums have eight pages included.
- Hamby Screenprints Clearly Heavy Overlays are not quite acrylic, but a thicker transparency that can be cut in a trimmer. They can be used together with an acrylic album or can be cut to make your own mini album.
To Scrap:
Glue dots and dry adhesives work well with acrylic albums to adhere most of your embellishments and memorabilia. KI Gloo will also work for some of your heavier items. To write directly on your albums, Sharpies, Sakura soufflé pens, and American Crafts slick writers work wonderfully. Most high-quality rub-ons such as Hambly Screenprints and BasicGrey will adhere well to accent your album. Below are links to fantastic clear album examples: Now you can go make your own!
