Unconventional Title Design
As you probably already know, one of the most important elements in your scrapbook page (after your photos) is the title. It gives your family (or whoever may be admiring your scrapbook) the “big picture” about what the pictures and journaling are all about on a given page. It serves as a basic design element. It can also be the most fun part of your page to create. Not every fancy title has to take hours to create though. Take a look at some of these unconventional title ideas and let your imagination run wild. Write it with fibers You can get a variety of looks by just using your own handwriting and a bottle of glue. Just write your title with glue and choose a fiber to place on top. Die-cut photos for title letters When I took the kids to the tulip fields, I was so blown away, I ended up taking quite a few pictures of tulips. I traced my alphabet template onto the pictures and cut out the title letters. You could also use a die-cut machine. Spell it out in pictures Get creative with your photography on this one. Sure, we have probably all taken a picture of the sign at the zoo for a page title, but how about having your children hold up letters like mine did in this layout entitled “LOVE.” You could also have them spell something out with body language (think of the old Village People’s YMCA song). Mismatched letters If you are like me and you have a plethora of alphabet templates or letter stickers that you don’t use enough, this will be an easy way to put many of them to good use. In the “Seashells” title below, I traced different templates for each letter of the title. You can also mix and match your sticker letters, rub-ons, chipboard letters, etc. to get the same effect. It’s a perfect way to use up those partially-used sticker sheets. Mixed-media title If you have a long title, you can use a different technique for each word of the title. It might take a little extra time, but the end result is worth it. For my “Soccer Star” title, I used a combination of sticker letters, eyelet letters, die cuts, metal-rimmed tags, and even a Coluzzle alphabet. The next time you create a page, don’t neglect your title! Take a minute to see how you can creatively fit the title to the page using some of these unique techniques.
