Using the Ez2Cut templates really is easy! Here are a few tips to get the best use out of the various templates! Cutting instructions:
To get the best results, be sure to use a swivel knife and a cutting mat. Attach your photo or paper to your cutting mat using re-positionable adhesive, such as Hermafix dots. This will keep your photo or paper from moving while you are cutting it. Lay your template over the photo or paper (it’s clear, so you’ll know where to cut!) and press down lightly to keep the template in place. Then take your swivel knife and insert it into the groove of the template. Start cutting at a starting point on the template and cut in until you reach a stopping point. It’s better to start your cutting at these points rather than in the middle to be sure to get a smooth cut. When you’ve finished cutting, lift up your template and snip the connected parts of your photo (or paper). You’re done! Tips: While cutting around curves and small areas, rotate your knife back and forth between your fingers to get a smoother cut. It really works! Also, always hold the knife sraight up and down. Never tilt the knife. Kaleidoscope Instructions: developing mirror image photos When using the Kaleidoscope templates K1 and K2, you’ll need to develop your photos as mirror images as well as your regular image. For the K1, you will need eight photographs. Four will be regular images, and four will need to be mirror images. For the K2, you will only need six photographs. Three will be regular and three will be mirror images. If you are having your photos developed professionally, be sure that they are developing them correctly. Here are instructions for developing mirror image photos from negatives: Tip: Another option for making mirror images of your photos is to scan them, or use digital photos, and use the “mirror image” option in your photo editing software. You can then print out your mirror images on your photo printer. Kaleidoscope Instructions: cutting your photos When you are cutting your photos to create a kaleidoscope, cutting each photo in the same place is extremely important in order to be sure that your photos will line up correctly with each other and create a true kaleidoscope look. Separate your regular and mirror image photos into two piles. Start with the regular image photos. Lay one photo under your template and decide what section of the photo you want to include and what angle will best suit your kaleidoscope image. Once you have chosen a position, take a wet-erase marker and outline key elements of your photo on the template. The more you outline, the easier it will be to line up your other photos for cutting.
Once you have finished outlining, go ahead and cut your photo using your swivel knife. Then lay your other regular photos under the template, lining them up with your wet-erase marks and cut those as well. Now you are ready to cut your mirror image photos. Lay your first mirror image photo on your cutting mat. Take your template and flip it over. Your marker outline should match the mirror image photo now! Line it up just like you did with the regular photos and cut the mirror image photos. Now, you can put your kaleidoscope together, alternating regular and mirror image photos.
