Tag, You're It!
Using tags is one of my favorite ways to embellish a layout. They’re easy to use, versatile and a very economical way to add zest to your scrapbook pages.
Titles - Tags can easily be used for titles. In “Always Friends,” for example, ribbons, foam stamps and acrylic paint were used to create a simple but elegant look.
Journaling - Another way to use tags is for journaling. Because tags come in so many sizes, they can be used whether you are doing detailed journaling or just making a note of something as simple as the date.
Labels - Small tags can also be used to identify subjects in photos. “Divas Do Vegas” utilizes the concept of journaling tags in an envelope as well as smaller tags to identify the people in the photo. You can purchase ready-made tags, make them using a pre-made template or create your own.
Embellishments - Distressing tags with walnut ink and/or embellishing them is yet another way to dress up a layout. Can’t find the right color? Use a pre-cut tag as a template to cut out the perfect size in the perfect color. A piece of scrap cardstock can be transformed into a tag very quickly. To embellish “Girly Girls,” a tag was cut out of coordinating patterned paper, the edges were inked, and chipboard words and fibers were used.
Here are some other suggestions for using tags:
- Make a library pocket and tuck a tag in to use for journaling.
- Use rub-ons or letter stamps on tags to include a message or quote.
Put a monogram on a tag as in “C is for Christian.”
- Attach brightly colored ribbon or festive fibers for a stylish embellishment.
- Use for dates, names or quick memos.
- Stamp images on tags to complement a layout.
- Use tags to embellish greeting cards.
- Use tags for gift cards or place cards.
- Use tags for photo mats.
There is a tag to fit whatever your needs are. Tags purchased in bulk at an office supply store are very economical. Going in with a friend or two to share a bulk order makes them even more economical.
These are just a few ideas for using tags. Because they’re versatile and inexpensive, it’s easy to experiment with different ways to use them. Let your creativity be your guide. I challenge you to try tags on your next layout. Tag, you're it!
