Simple Stamp Cleaner
I've become an alphabet stamp junkie. At a scrapbook convention this weekend, I bought three sets to add to my already growing collection, now bringing my grand total to 11 alphabet stamp sets--and I'm afraid I'm not done collecting!
I love alphabet stamps because they're so versatile, but I don't like having to clean them each time I use them. After I bought all these stamps, I went looking for a handy way to clean them. I received a great tip from a scrapbook store employee:
She suggested using baby wipes.
Perhaps since I don't have kids this solution never came to me, but I was certainly excited by this inexpensive and easy idea. I headed to the store, found the baby aisle and picked up a bin of baby wipes. I made sure to get a bin with a flip-top lid so that I could simply dab my stamps onto the top sheet to clean them, and then discard the sheet when it was full of ink.
Now my little stamp cleaner bin sits on my desk and it only takes a few seconds to clean my stamps. Of course, I "jazzed" the container up a little bit by painting over the label and adding a ribbon and my own "stamp cleaner" label.
Now there's no excuse for me not to use all those alphabet stamps I've collected!
Correction: Thank you to those of you who sent in comments about last week's Tutor Tips article regarding stamp cleaning. It was brought to my attention that simply using baby wipes to clean stamps may decrease the life of your rubber stamp. It is best to use baby wipes only as a temporary cleaning solution. It is important to follow up with a conditioning stamp cleaner to keep your rubber stamps soft and pliable. Also remember to use alcohol-free baby wipes, as the alcohol can dry out your stamps.
