Faux-Shaving-Cream Technique Tutorial

by Karen Baxter (May 14, 2008)

If you like the marbled look of the shaving cream technique, but don't like the mess involved, you'll love this technique. It's one of the easiest stamping techniques I've ever tried, and the results are quite impressive.

1_109All you'll need is cardstock, a solid image stamp (outlined or patterned images won't work), a stamping wheel and two coordinating colors of ink, one lighter than the other.

  1. Ink up your solid image stamp in the lighter ink color.

  2. Ink up the wheel stamp in the darker ink color.

  3. Roll the inked wheel stamp over the solid stamp, smudging it just a bit by twisting the wheel. Then set the wheel aside.

  4. The ink on the solid stamp has probably started to dry by now, so huff on the stamp to remoisten it. Huffing is when you open your mouth and blow - just like you warm your hands when it is cold outside.

  5. Stamp the image onto your cardstock.

Use this technique to create your own patterned paper for a scrapbook page, as the focal image for a card or to create a one-of-a-kind embellishment. It's a super simple way to add some pizzazz without a lot of effort or mess.
