Enhancing Punched Shapes
by Patricia Folchert
(Jan 9, 2013)
We all search for low-cost ways to enhance our layouts, right? Punches are a tool that most of us have readily available and they offer so many possibilities. With both of my examples I used some type of layering technique paired with punched shapes. I actually used two very basic punches: a circle punch and a scalloped circle punch. This approach is a great way to use up your scraps too! The first layout, which is about my daughter starting her senior year of high school, uses the plain circle punch, but first I adhered several scrap paper strips on a base sheet of paper. Then I punched the circles, making fun coordinated embellishments to match my layout.
With the second layout I used my scalloped circle punch to make a ribbon-type layered badge. I punched three circles from coordinating paper. Then I misted them with water, scrunched them up and distressed them a little bit. Next I flattened them out and set them aside to dry. Then I layered them and hooked them together with a brad. On top I added a matching hexagon sticker and then the blue ribbon embellishment. After that all you need is the layered tails with the triangle tips and voila, you have your own ribbon embellishment.
I bet you are already running your punch inventory through your mind and contemplating the possibilities! If you do come up with some of your own enhanced punch artwork, please share it with us here at the Scrapjazz Gallery. There is no better time than the present to share your creative interpretations with us!
