Product Review: Jenni Bowlin Acrylic Paint Dabbers

by Patter Cross (Jan 13, 2012)

Product Name:  Jenni Bowlin Acrylic Paint Dabbers (12 paints in collection)

Price:  $3.49 per bottle

Product Description:

The paint dabbers from Ranger Ink and Jenni Bowlin have a built-in foam applicator for using on stamps, edging papers, painting chipboard, art journaling pages, etc. You can use these paints directly onto your surface without a paint brush. For finer coverage, you can also remove the top and dip a paint brush into the bottle.  These paints are acid-free, non-toxic, mess-free, and portable. These paints also match the Jenni Bowlin stamp pads by the same color name. It makes mixing and matching inks and paints very easy and fun.

In Use:

Before you use these dabbers for the first time, you will need to break the seal underneath the foam. You can do that by pressing down on the foam top until you hear a click, or you can press the foam top down onto a piece of paper until you hear the click. I prefer to just use my finger, because it works perfectly.

There is one disadvantage to these -- the paint can become dry over time. An easy solution is to add a tiny bit of water into the bottle, shake, and then the paint should work beautifully. Also, if you tend to rub the foam top onto your creation instead of dabbing, the foam top can wear out over time. You can purchase Adirondack Replacement Dabber Tops if this happens. I keep a couple of extra tops on hand just in case.

Tips & Techniques:

My favorite way to store these is first to create swatches. I press the paint onto a white piece of cardstock. You can see the fresh swatches below.

After the swatches dry, I punch them out with a circle punch, add a Glue Dot, and adhere to the top of each bottle. This way it is easy for me to see the color I want to use.

Project Ideas & Examples:

Here is a 5"x6" page I did for my 7gypsies Revolving Photo Carousel. I used the Jenni Bowlin Brown Sugar Paint Dabber, painted the end of a cardboard tube, and used it to stamp circles on the layout.

I also inked all of the edges of the various papers with the dabber. Inking edges with these paint dabbers is very easy and fun.

So, I hope you will pick up some of these dabbers. The colors are perfect for all paper creations!
