Product Review: Parfait Collection - Fabric Flowers

by Maegan Hall (Nov 16, 2011)

Look all over the Internet and it doesn't take long to see that fabric hair bows and flowers are all the rage. Unable to buy one for less than $5, I thought this Prima pack was a steal. I got two flowers for just under $5 and they're worth every penny.

Product Name: Prima Parfait Collection - Fabric Flowers

Price: $4.99

Product Description:

Each package contains two 3" flowers made of an organza-type material. The edges of the fabric flower are sealed so fraying shouldn't be an issue. The flowers are not too thick and should work in any type of album.

In Use:

The flowers are bendable and can easily be altered to add or take away fabric. Some might think this is an expensive package for only two flowers. When considering the time it would take to hand-cut each petal at home and seal the edges, having Prima do it for $2.50 is a great idea. These flowers are synthetic, so coloring them could be difficult. The edges will probably hold chalk, but the chalk can rub off. I can't tell what type of glue was used for the flowers, so I'm not sure it they'll hold up in the washing machine if you plan on adding them to a dress. For a hair band, simply glue gun to a dollar-store headband or clip and you're done. You can even wrap the band in coordinating ribbon if you like.

Tips & Techniques:

  • To add more depth, cut scrap fabric into circles and fold in quarters. Add glue to the crease and stuff under some of the existing petals.
  • If you have a fraying edge, rather than pull out a lighter, use liquid glue or clear nail polish.
  • Be careful when using a glue gun; too much heat can melt this fabric.
  • Examine each flower carefully and you can see how to make your own!
