Embellishing with Eyelets

by Mimi Russell (Jun 15, 2005)

Most avid scrapbookers have been using eyelets (grommets) on their scrapbook pages for years. They are the perfect solution for adhering vellum, but let’s face it, there’s just something about pulling out that hammer and making all that noise that makes it FUN! Here’s a list of other ways to incorporate eyelets into your page embellishments.

Embellish Photo Mats. You can use them on the four corners of the photo, or however you like, to bring attention to the focal point of your page.

Accent a Page Title. You can use eyelets as the center of your letters instead of cutting out the little holes. Use shaped eyelets as a border around your title.

Mimic Your Photos. For example, the eyelets placed randomly in the background of this layout mimic the footholds in the rock-climbing photos.

Lace Ribbons or Fibers. My example is laced up like shoelaces, but don’t forget that you can put the eyelets closer together and they don’t have to be symmetrical.

Accent Your Journaling. Dot some I’s or even exchange a shaped eyelet for a whole word.

With the invention of eyelets made in every possible shape and color, the possibilities are just endless. Take some time to dig through your stash. It’s true that brads have the same versatility and might be quicker to use, but they don’t give you the opportunity to hammer out your aggressions and make more noise than your kids!
