Eyelet Setting Instructions
In order to set an eyelet on a piece of paper, you will need to have the following tools:
- Hammer
- Eyelet Setter
- Anywhere Hole Punch
- Eyelets
- Hard Work Surface
- Cutting Mat
Be sure that your work surface is hard and sturdy, since you’ll be hammering away on it. Also, be sure to use a cutting mat to protect your surface (especially if it’s your dining room table) from nicks, cuts and scratches. STEP 1 First make pencil marks where you want your eyelets to go. This will help you space them correctly and know where to make your holes for the eyelets. STEP 2 Place the tip of the anywhere hole punch around your marked dot. Then tap the hammer on the end of the hole punch. You will probably want to practice this a few times to get a feel for how hard you need to hit the punch with the hammer in order to cut the paper. Cardstock and heavier papers will take more of a “whack” than regular patterned papers. When you lift the hole punch off the page, there should be a hole where your mark was. STEP 3 Place the eyelet in the hole. STEP 4 Next, holding the eyelet in place, flip your paper over so that you are looking at the backside of the project and the eyelet is sticking through the hole. STEP 5 Place the tip of your eyelet setter into the back of the eyelet. STEP 6 Tap the hammer on the end of the eyelet setter until the sides of the eyelet start to flatten. Again, you’ll want to practice this a few times to get a feel for how many and how hard your whacks should be. It usually takes 3-4 good whacks for my eyelets to flatten out. STEP 7 Once your eyelets have flattened out a little, they usually still are pretty bulky. Give them a couple of taps with the hammer to flatten them out more, and to protect the page behind it in the page protector.
