Birds of a Feather

by Julia Sandvoss (Aug 20, 2007)

It seems everywhere you look birds and winged creatures are flocking more and more to our scrapbook and stamp supplies. It's not that they're new to us; it's just that we've entered a new trend, a winged trend. This trend seems to focus more on birds and owls and butterflies too! There are beautiful papers, stamps, rub-ons, diecuts, felt creations and more. These sweet winged animals add a beautiful touch to our work. Whether it's a bit of whimsy you seek, a romantic touch, a bit of nostalgia or even a part of the theme, they seem to be just the right accent for many creations. Here are some examples of ways to incorporate these wonderful winged beauties into your creations.

  1. For this layout birds were not a part of the theme but added just the right touch to complement the Bo Bunny papers and accents.

  2. For this layout the birds definitely added a whimsical touch that fit along with the theme of the layout and the colors too!

  3. For this layout birds, or for that matter owls, were not at all a part of the theme. Instead the Autumn Leaves French Twist supplies I chose had owls incorporated in them.

  4. For this layout it was all about birds, from the title to the supplies! Scenic Route's Laurel line is filled with birds, and my guys were definitely being silly birds!

  5. Birds were not a part of the theme for this layout, or even the majority of supplies, but just an added touch using the Hambly Screen Prints rub-ons. This is just the right amount!

And you know that birds and owls aren't just fun on layouts, they're also perfect for cards too!

  1. Here's a fun card I made using new Paper Salon Acrylic Stamps. This adorable owl is from the "Just A Note" set.

  2. Here's another fun card using a Stampin' Up! owl stamp I fell in love with. This makes a fun way to say hello!

  3. Here is a card I made for Mom using Amuse Art Stamps, Poppy Ink Stamps and some beautiful Crate Paper.

  4. Last, here is a fun card using KI Memories Pet Shop paper and a stamp from Amuse Art Stamps.
